Heat Treated Pallets For International Shipping! Tri County Pallet (330)848-0313

September 3, 2020 by Editorial Team

Tri County offers heat treated pallets for sale, certified for use as international pallets, for customers in NE Ohio, western Pennsylvania and W. Virginia.

Wood pallets are a vital component of the world’s storage and distribution system. About 80 countries require imported goods to be shipped with heat treated pallets that meet the international pallet standard ISPM-15.

The International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures publication number 15 (ISPM-15) is the regulation of wood packaging material (WPM) in international trade. The regulations were established to assist in the prevention of the worldwide spread of plant pests and diseases through internationally used packaging materials by using chemical or heat treated wood packaging material (WPM) for pallets, crates and dunnages. As part of the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) controls the regulations through the cooperation of member governments of the United Nations.

This is the international pallet shipping label indicating compliance with the IPCC standards for of heat treatment.

ISPM-15 applies to coniferous softwood and non-coniferous hardwood used as raw wood packaging material. According to the ISPM-15 standard, wood packing materials from North America must be kiln-dried and free of bark, insect holes, living insects and nematodes.  Heat treated pallets for international shipping from Tri County Pallet will ensure you always meet this requirement. Learn more about the process for heat treated pallets.

At Tri County Pallet, we can ensure that your international shipping will never be hindered by the pallets you use. The lumber used in pallet manufacturing is an ideal raw material because it is repairable, recyclable and very cost-effective. We are familiar with all exporting regulations regarding wood packaging and heat treated pallets. We have customers that ship our pallets literally around the world.

Whether you are shipping one country away or half-way around the world, you won’t ever have to worry about the international pallets carrying your loads. We not only provide standard GMA pallet sizes, but also offer customized design to meet your needs. If you have incoming pallets, then we would like to buy them from you. That’s right, we buy wood pallets! We can even repair broken wooden pallets! If pallets are unrepairable, then we turn them into mulch to avoid filling any landfills.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Tri County Pallet can provide heat treated pallets for sale that meet the ISPM-15 international standard for customers in Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia, generally about a 100-mile radius from our offices in Akron, Ohio. How to Make Money Selling Used Wooden Pallets

March 3, 2020 by Editorial Team

Are you looking for an innovative way to make some extra cash? Do you want to find a side hustle that has the potential to develop into a full-fledged business?

Selling used wooden pallets might be for you.

Companies like Tri County Pallet & Mulch are always looking for entrepreneurs who can pick up and sell us used wood pallets from low-volume users (like restaurants, convenience stores, etc.).  We have our own fleet of 53-ft. van trailers that we use to pick up used pallets from large users (ie grocery stores, manufacturing plants) but there are a lot of smaller businesses whose daily deliveries come on wood pallets that need to be recycled. Approximately 30% of the pallets we buy are from lower-volume users.

Though it may seem random, starting a business picking up and selling used pallets has helped make several individuals serious money. And it can work for you, too.

This article will walk you through everything you need to know to get started selling wooden pallets for a profit.

Even if you don’t know the first thing about this business, don’t worry. We’ll make sure that you have the knowledge it takes to start selling pallets in no time—even if you don’t know what a pallet is now.

Follow this advice carefully and adapt it to your current situation for maximum benefits. Done right, this can become a serious business.

What Are Wooden Pallets?

Before you can start breaking the shackles of a 9-5 job life by selling wooden pallets, you’re going to have to know what they are.

Wooden pallets are used by manufacturing companies to transport products.

Large quantities of product are put on these pallets and are then transported by forklift to other areas of the warehouse or loaded onto trucks to be delivered elsewhere.

Pallets offer incredible convenience in product transport and delivery, but once they have been used, it’s often the case they can’t be used again.

Because the weight of the products can be so heavy, many of these pallets break under the pressure. Unskilled forklift use also can damage pallets, making them unfit for repeated company use.

When this happens, these pallets will likely accumulate in a business’s warehouse or outside its doors until it they’re busted up and thrown away.

This can be a lengthy and costly process for businesses, as their employees have to take time from important work in order to discard these pallets.

Additionally, what most businesses don’t know is that it can cost them thousands in potential earnings.

Companies like Tri County Pallet & Mulch buy and recycle used pallets—meaning that this could be a goldmine for people with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Because these businesses recycle these old pallets, it’s also good for the environment—making it a popular choice for some companies.

The truth is, however, that many businesses have yet to buy into these effective services. Instead, they are left dealing with unnecessary pallets littering their warehouses and walkways.

This is where you can come in.

By being able to take these pallets off a business’s hands, you can start turning a profit for yourself. Once you’ve found businesses looking to get rid of their used pallets, you’ll have a supply of material you can sell to us or any pallet recycler near you.

With businesses getting deliveries on pallets every day, you’re sure to have a constant stream of materials coming your way.

Learning how to take advantage of this process, however, isn’t easy.

Keep reading below to see how you can start making money from collecting and delivering wooden pallets.

If done right, you can even develop this into a profitable business of your own.

Who Buys Wooden Pallets?

Before you get started, you’re going to need to know who, exactly, is willing to buy wooden pallets.

Chances are there’s a company in your area.

But you’re going to have to know where to find them.

Your best bet is to search for pallet recycling companies in your area. Do an online search to find a pallet recycler near you.

Get an idea of what they will pay you for the different pallets that you bring in. Choose the one that will bring in the most money.

There are several factors that may affect how much a company is willing to pay you for a pallet, including:

  1. Size—Larger pallets will typically bring in more money. You can expect to get more money for a larger pallet in good condition than a smaller one in a similar condition.
  2. Condition—This is the most important determinant of how much you’re going to get paid.  Pallets that are still in fairly okay shape can be repaired and sold again for reuse. This makes them worth a lot more to recycling companies than those that are in bad shape. Don’t get discouraged, however, as these pallets can make you some extra money, too. Many recycling services will offer lower rates for pallets in bad condition—and some will even pay you so that they can turn them into mulch.
  3. The Number You Have—While this doesn’t determine how much you will get paid per pallet, it’s a safe bet that the more pallets you can bring in, the better. Though it stands to reason that a shipment of good condition used pallets will make more than a mixture of good and bad, you can be fairly certain that you can get more money with more pallets. This means securing more clients can help you gain more traction to starting a business of your own.

With this information in mind, you can start to get a better idea of how much you can make per haul. You may even find that once you’ve gotten into the swing of things that you can predict how much you’ll get with each delivery.

You’ll start to recognize, for instance, that pallets from one client generally bring in more money than those from another, giving you a better eye for which pallet pickups are better for your bottom line.

By establishing good relationships with the businesses from which you’ll pick up pallets AND the recycling companies to whom you’ll sell pallets, you’ll find these companies will depend on you, ensuring a steady stream of income.

What You’ll Need to Sell Wood Pallets

Getting started requires two things:

  1. The right equipment
  2. A plan for how you’ll run your business

Without the right vehicles, you’ll be unable to transport any significant volume of wooden pallets.

With standard pallets being 48”x40”, you’ll have a tough time fitting them into a regular vehicle—even a truck.  So, you’ll need to acquire a vehicle that will allow you to transport a high quantity of wooden pallets.

If you can’t afford such a vehicle, it may be possible to store some pallets in your current car or truck—preferably a truck. But, this will require making multiple trips to pickup and deliver used pallets, costing you time and gas and limiting your income.

Still, if you’re just looking to make some money on the side, this should be enough to get started. Starting small provides you the time to build your business, earn some income and gain valuable experience until you’re able to get a larger vehicle to expand your business.

If you do plan on going professional, it’s generally recommended that you obtain a vehicle that can accommodate the size and the volume of the pallets that you’re transporting.

It’s also important that you don’t damage the pallets even further during transport, as this can cost you money.

Some suggest that in order to combat this, you build walls around your vehicle in order to protect your cargo. Stacking them vertically in a truck bed may also be an option—and if you’ve got a trailer that you can pull, you can load them there, too.

By taking the steps to secure proper transportation, you can begin a professional career in selling used wood pallets.

As your business begins to take off, you should look into buying or leasing a commercial-grade vehicle that will allow you to safely transport a large number of wooden pallets at a time. Doing that will boost your income and profit margins over time.

Plan to Make Money Selling Used Pallets

What other steps should you follow in order to start making real money by selling used pallets?

For starters, once you’ve found the recycling company and vehicle of your choice, you’re going to need to find clients.

Companies that distribute products are typical users of pallets, as are grocery stores, restaurants, and other types of retailers. All of these will be looking to offload their used pallets.

Because you’ll get paid by the recycler, it’s probably your best bet that you don’t charge the businesses from which you’ll be collecting pallets.

In this way, you provide a free service that’s hard for them to turn down.

Once you’ve got your foot in the door with one business, it will be easier to get others to follow.

For this reason, you may want to start with the biggest business in your area. If you can secure them as a client, you can be sure that others will want your services, too.

Be sure to present yourself professionally and be able to sell your service to businesses without a hitch.

If you’ve never sold anything before, you might want to consider practicing in the mirror or by yourself so that you can make a more confident pitch.

Remember, you’re selling points are:

  • You will remove their used pallets for free
  • You will save the company time and money of having to dispose used pallets
  • You will free up their employee’s time doing this work
  • Your work won’t cost them anything.

By making sure that you’re selling these points to businesses, you’ll find that you will get more clients than you thought possible.

Some businesses might want to see the vehicle you’ll be using. If that’s the case, it’s better to have viable transportation early so that you can secure more clients.

Make sure that you sell yourself confidently so that you can get your new business off the ground.

What If You’re a Business Owner?

If you’re the owner or manager of a business that needs to offload used pallets, you can make money by recycling your wooden pallets, too. With large enough volume, you can cut out the middleman and go straight to the recycling company to get paid for your used pallets.

In this way, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of recycling and get paid to do it.

By taking advantage of these great opportunities, entrepreneurs and businesses can make money selling used wooden pallets.

Why You Should Get Rid of Your Broken Pallets?

There are several reasons you should get rid of your broken pallets.

That’s right. Selling your pallets is not just about money—though that’s a good enough reason in and of itself.

But if you’ve got extra pallets lying around, you know just what we’re talking about.

Below, we’ll walk through some of the most important reasons why you should get rid of your extra pallets today.

Contact Us Today For Pallet Removal!

1. Safety—Did you know that having one too many pallets lying around can actually pose a safety hazard for you and your workers?

If you’re not removing your pallets in a timely manner, you run the risk of having them spill out into unsafe areas.

Pallets can block walkways and the paths of equipment such as forklifts, putting your employees and your business at risk.

In fact, blocking the walkway—even unintentionally—with excess pallets can even put your company at risk of serious OSHA fines.

Make sure that you’re doing everything you can to protect your workers and your company’s wallet.

In the unfortunate event that a worker does get injured, you may find your company is out several thousand dollars in medical fees—and maybe even fines. It’s also not good for your employees or your business’s reputation.

The worst part of all is that in the hustle and bustle of running your business, it can be easy to overlook the buildup of old pallets. You may not even notice that you’ve accumulated so many—or the fact that your employees have begun to stack them in unsafe ways or in inappropriate areas.

By making sure that you’re routinely selling old and broken pallets to Tri County Pallet & Mulch, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of encountering safety issues while on the job. In doing so, you’ll be able to protect your workers from injury and your company from having to pay exorbitant medical—and possibly legal—fees.

2. Extra Money—The most obvious reason that you should sell your old pallets is that you can get a nice sum of money for it.

Depending on the condition of pallets that you have, Tri City Pallet & Mulch will pay up to $3 per pallet.

Starting to see how you can start making a nice chunk of change with your old pallets?

The truth is that every time you throw one of your old pallets away, you’re losing money.

And if you’re just leaving your pallets lying around the warehouse, you could be sitting on your next jackpot.

When you can make so much money by selling your old pallets, it simply doesn’t make sense to do anything else.

By recycling your pallets over the course of the year, you can start to make a savings that will really add up.

3. It’s Environmentally Friendly—Making sure that you properly dispose of your old pallets can boost your company’s image.

Who doesn’t want to be known as that green company doing everything it can to help the environment?

By selling your pallets to Tri County Pallet & Mulch, you’ll be able to claim that you’re supporting a company that helps save over 250,000 trees a year.

Connecting your business to such a noble cause can be a powerful marketing tool. Leveraging this connection will put you in better standing with some of your potential clients while deepening your company’s pockets.

Not to mention that recycling is just the right thing to do.

By choosing Tri County Pallet, you’ll be able to throw your support behind a good cause while getting paid money to do so.

What could be better than that?

And if used correctly, you could potentially leverage your new-found environmental support to secure better deals and more clients in the future.

4. More Space—In addition to being safer, there are several benefits to freeing up more space in your warehouse. Maybe you’ll finally have room to bring in that new shipment of products you’re needing, or maybe you have that chance you’ve been waiting for to reorganize the warehouse.

By taking control of your warehouse this way, you’ll be better able to make a system that works for you and your employees—potentially saving you money.

Our recycling services streamline your warehouse experience, giving you the flexibility and the space you need to get required work done.

We know just how frustrating it is to have pallets taking up much-needed space. And trust us—we know just how difficult it is to move them out of the way.

That’s why we’re here to make sure that you have the right tools and resources needed to effectively clean your warehouse in no time.

Let us do the hard work for you.

5. More Time—Time is money as the old adage goes, and when you own a business, you don’t want to have to pay for time that’s not well-spent.

And can you honestly say that the hours your employees will spend moving old pallets every week is a good use of company dollars?

We didn’t think so.

Free up your employees’ time so that they can focus on more important issues by contacting Tri County Pallet and Mulch.

We’ll take care of all your removal needs so that you don’t have to.

Your employees will be able to focus on profitable actions, rather than menial cleanup duty. In this way, not only will your company make money from the recycled pallets, but it will also be getting a greater return on its investments.

By paying employees only for tasks that are more likely to turn a profit, companies can make potentially thousands of dollars extra in the same amount of time it takes employees to clean old pallets.

Tri County Pallet: The benefit of pallet management with Tri County Pallet

November 13, 2017 by Editorial Team

Tri County Pallet: The benefit of pallet management with Tri County Pallet

The benefit of a pallet management system from Tri County Pallet:
Increased Asset Utilization – Our daily management and tracking of pallets improves the availability of pallets (if empty and available) while reducing the downtime in the pallet usage life cycle. A pallet management system from Tri County Pallet can provide the critical core information to execute advanced decision making on the movement of goods enabling improved supply chain process management (SCPM) thereby saving time or dollars. Combined with industry pooling, utilization is a major cost reduction driver.
Improved Capital Deployment – The fundamental problem with pallets is that they may be expensive. Pallet purchase and subsequent depreciation has a significant effect on cash flow, the balance sheet and P&L. Protecting this investment and minimizing on-going investing is a key ROI element of pallet systems. Repairing your wooden pallets will reduce your cost as well as maintaining a JIT just-in-time pallet management system with us at Tri County Pallet.
Asset Loss Reduction / Prevention – Pallet loss reduction has substantial impact on a company’s bottom line. Most firms typically have both 10% and 40% lost assets. “Loss” consists of non-locatable assets in the supply chain, i.e. unable to be used, as well as true loss. In either case, new assets must be purchased to refill the available pool. We will ensure that your assets are kept at an appropriate level based on your individual needs.
Maintenance and Repair Cost Reduction – A final benefit of a pallet management system from Tri County Pallet is maintenance cost reduction. Assets require cyclical preventative repair as well as repair for damage in handling. Our Pallet management system identifies required preventative repair as well as the removal of damaged assets that could result in accidents and shipping loss.
