Back-to-School DIY Pallet Activities

It’s back-to-school season! So whether it's off to college or the first day of kindergarten. You can get thrifty and eco-friendly with some pallet upcycled that will work for you or your kids! So what can you do? Dorm furniture? Absolutely! What about enrichment tools for your younger students? Certainly! From desks and bunk beds to chalkboards and sandboxes you can upscale a pallet into something new and unique. Building these things is a fantastic way to help the environment while also having some fun. Here are a few fun projects you can try out!

First up is a great one for the younger ones in the house. A picnic table with a built-in sandbox or toy chest. You can easily break down pallets to build up a picnic table from multiple designs, but to take that an extra step further you can insert a box for the top and use it for storage or as a sandbox. Then much like leaves for a kitchen table, you can cover the storage area for safekeeping.

Next up is a perfect one for those high schoolers or even for those going off to college. A full-sized loft bed. The perk of this is being able to maximize those smaller rooms at home or maximize space in a shared living situation such as a dorm. With a loft bed made from pallets, you can make it modular so it’s easy to tear down for moving around. The concept of a large loft bed gives plenty of room for sleeping as well as enough space underneath for a large desk to work and study. Both only take up the amount of space that a bed or desk would on their own in your home. This allows for a more open room with plenty of space to not feel cramped so they can focus on school instead of clutter.

Some smaller builds that work well are lap tables, these easy builds keep laptops up for better posture and prevent them from overheating. This is perfect for those that like to work from bed or while on the couch. That way they can stay comfortable while working but also stay productive.

Finally, one last one for the kids is one that focuses on relaxing and playing after school. A treehouse or a playhouse. A classic for a reason, there are tons of designs to choose from and no amount of limitations. They’re easy to build from recycled materials and reclaimed pallets too! So you can make an awesome space for the kids for way less money than you would spend on new lumber from the store and the results are gonna be the same!
